Day 1

July 17, we had a short 3D2N trip to Pangkor Laut Resort to relax ourselves after a hectic full day pre-wedding shooting on 15 July. The package is inclusive of boat transfer, breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

We took Plusliner bus from Puduraya station, depart at 8.30am and arrive at 12.40pm. It cost RM104.10 for two person, round trip.

Upon arrive at Lumut bus station, we walked to Pangkor Laut Resort office, which is right behind the station, about 1 minute walk. We were greeted by the friendly staff and left the luggage there, served with drinks while waiting for check-in, yes, the check-in is done at the office, not at the resort itself. We then wait for the scheduled ferry time. At 1.05pm, we and the rest of the guest were led to the jetty and onboard the private boat, depart at 1.10pm and arrived at 1.45pm, a 35 minutes boat transfer.

We were greeted and served with drinks again while waiting for the staff to attend to us regarding our room. After a short wait, one of them come to us and briefs us about the resort layout, restaurants, activities, and etc (one of the useful info given was the sunset time: 7.00 – 7.30pm, good for planning). During the introduction, the reception saw I have running nose, she ask whether I need a doctor or not, the resort have a clinic & doctor on the island. She pointed where the clinic is and said if the doctor is not around, just call the reception and they’ll arrange for it.

Our room is not ready yet, so we went for lunch at Royal Bay Beach Club, the swimming pool is just right next to it. Had appetizer, main and dessert, they’re all of good quality, taste good. We were given the receipt to sign with the room number and name, no payment required as it is inclusive. Even if it is not inclusive, you sign the same receipt, the only difference is you’ll pay for it at checkout. The resort is designed to be cash-free, you doesn’t need to bring along any cash, just put down your name and room number, all your expenses will be added to your bill when you check out.

We return to reception, get the key, and led to the room by the friendly staff. Most of our luggage has been sent to the room except my camera bag which I left it at reception before lunch, pity her got to carry my heavy bag. Upon entered our room, she introduce and explain what’s available (wardrobe, safe box, open air bathtub, cleaning service available, & etc).

As usual, I took photos of the room, rest for awhile, call dining concierge and booked out dinner (8pm). Took our bath and proceed to Fisherman Village restaurant, we got a nice seat close to the beach, had our dinner with breezy wind and sound of wave. We walk around after dinner to take photos of the night view, wifey took a short rest at the library doing her reading, it is nicely designed, like the lights most. We then return to our room and ordered some ice, although the concierge service is closed, the reception do help by asking the security to send it over. A night with champagne over the balcony is just great, especially that’s with the loved one. Rest and sleep, end of day 1.

Day 2

Woke up at 9.45am, brush up and went breakfast. Breakfast is only served at Fisherman Village restaurant, not any other. There’re a lot of choices, western, Malay, Chinese, and Indian food, all freshly cooked. Fruit is available for direct consumption or press for juice (there’s a staff next to the machine and ready to press it for you). After breakfast, wifey request for late checkout when sitting at reception and I walked around to take photos.

Around 11.35am, we took a shuttle (van) to Emarald Bay (top 10 beach, arrive in less than 10 minutes), the view and environment is spectacular. There’re lots of sun bed along the beach, we took 2 towers, pick our sun bed and rest, in less than a minute, a staff come over and serve us with mineral water in ice bucket (you don’t need to ask for it, it is complementary). Wifey read her story book (novel) and I walk around the beach, get wet in the sea and walk around for photos as well. If you’re lucky, you might spot some lizards, no worry, they’re not at the beach, it is usually a bit far behind, we didn’t see one, but that’s what we’re told.

Had our lunch next to the beach at Chapman’s Bar, with the beach & sea view. A note about the toilet, it is with aircond, it feels good when walk in from hot environment into a cold room. We return to our room at around 4.30pm, booked dinner for 9pm at Uncle Lim’s Kitchen, then rest.

We planned to return to Emerald Bay at 7pm for the sun set, we knew it will be very beautiful, wouldn’t want to miss that.

Around 6.45pm, we proceed to shuttle stop and after awhile, an empty shuttle arrived, but it is not the Emarald Bay shuttle. We asked the driver roughly how long to wait until the next shuttle arrive, without request, instead of telling us when, he kindly change the shuttle destination board/signage displayed at the wind screen and drive us there. He do so because the shuttle is empty and there’s no one else waiting for it. As expected, the sun set view never disappoints us and we’re served with drinks again when we arrive. We stayed until it’s completely dark before leaving. But this time we waited long for the shuttle as everyone else is leaving around the same time. The shuttle can’t take us all at once. We took the 2nd shuttle to return to resort reception, then a short wait and hop on to Spa Village shuttle, it stopped at Uncle Lim’s Kitchen to drop off guest before continue to Spa Village.

Ordered our food and it doesn’t take long for them to serve it, the waiting time is a good short one (at least for me, 15 minutes is reasonable given the number of guest at the restaurant). Out dinner is served at 9pm, with nice view, sound of wave, & breezy wind. Each of the restaurants at Pangkor Laut Resort is uniquely designed, they don’t repeat. We had a good chat there. After dinner, signed the bill and took the shuttle to return to reception, but we didn’t stop at reception, we get off earlier as it pass by the route near our room, so no point back to reception and walk back again. Returned to room and sleep, end of day 2.

Day 3

Woke up at 9.30am, brush up and had breakfast at 10.10am. I waited in a long queue for omelette as the chef cook them slowly. There are some different choices of food than yesterday, not bad, at least they don’t repeat the breakfast everyday which will be boring for guess that stay long. A note about the two fruits sections, the smaller pieces section is for direct consumption and the larger pieces is for pressing juice. I kind of like their service, it is good, there’s one time wifey dropped her fork, a staff immediately come over and hand her another clean fork.

After breakfast, we return to our room, rest, bath, and pack our stuff, sitting at balcony enjoying the scenery before leaving. We left the room at 1.50pm. 2 luggages are left in the room for room service to collect and another two we bring along with us due to valuable item in the bag. After checked-out, wifey stay at library and I walk from reception to sea villa, to Uncle Lim’s restaurant, all the way from one end to another end, just to take photos and explore places I haven’t visit. It is windy along the sea villa and undeniable it has a spectacular view there, hence, the price tag, which we couldn’t afford.

I return to reception at 2.45pm, and then walk to pier with wifey, a staff saw us taking photos at the jetty, she offer to help take photo for us, that’s very kind and thoughtful. Reached the pier, wait for our 3pm boat. We wouldn’t need to worry about luggage as the staff will help transport them to the boat and make sure we get it when we return to Lumut.
I feel reluctant to leave when getting on the boat, wish I could have stayed longer.

We reach Lumut jetty around 3.45pm then walk with ease to Pangkor Laut Resort office, our luggage has been sent there, we’re greeted and offered drinks again. There’s free WiFi available in the office, I was connected after got the WiFi key from one of the staff. Instead of sitting in there to wait for our 5.30pm return bus, we leave our luggage in the office and walk around souvenirs shops, then have our light lunch at KFC. On the way return to the office, we passed by local dried food shop, bought some for families.

We collected our luggage, walk out from the office then a staff politely shows the way/direction to the bus station. Waited for a short while for the bus, then get on and return to KL. The whole bus only has 2 passengers - us, that’s a new experience for me. The driver drove to another bus station, then another passenger get on the bus. On the way return to KL, driver stopped at another two stops to pickup other passengers, it seems like the bus route is designed to stop at a few station to pickup guest. Although some other passenger gets on, but the bus is still quite empty, only near half full. The bus stops at KL at two different destinations, it will first stop at KLSentral, and then continues to Puduraya as the final stop. We get off at KLSentral as that’s nearer to our home.

End of day 3.

A summary of our experience at Pangkor Laut Resort
  • Check in process: Quick
  • Check out process: Quick
  • Shuttle waiting time: OK (between 5 – 10 minutes, although the office said every 15 minutes)
  • Food waiting time: OK
  • Overall experience is great.
  • Got one occasion, two shuttle reach together, both destination is to Spa Village, one of the driver asked us where we’re going, then he change his shuttle destination due to no other guest is waiting (we’re going to Emerald Bay for sunset).
  • Staffs are polite, greet whenever meet guest, helpful.
  • Most of the food is great, apart from 2 or 3 of them (they’re not bad actually, but just not our taste)
  • Breakfast at Fisherman Village restaurant, food is great, but the egg station could do with some improvement, the waiting time is too long. I understand the egg needs to be cooked/fried slowly, but they could have added a few more station and spread out the queue instead of everyone waiting at the 2 queues.

The packages & meal
Be warned, if you’re going there without all inclusive package, it might burn your wallet a hole. Of course, breakfast is usually inclusive, but not the lunch and dinner. A lunch there, on average would cost RM200++ and a dinner would be RM500++ for 2 person (that’s the amount on our bill although we don’t need to pay for it).
